38) Earlier Type Mexico Eagle 8 Reales

Obverse

Reverse

(1884, Common post-1860s type)

(1890, Common post-1860s type)

Republic, 8 Reales, 1838Go PJ, 27.07g, 0.9030 Silver, .7859 ASW, 38mm. Mint: Guanajuato. This is the earlier type Mexico eagle coinage, which is scarcer than post-1860s type, particular in this sharply struck superb gem condition. Eye appealing natural purplish gold toning with a dash of irridescent blue highlight. Both sides show clear evidence of clashed dies. The eagle has the rays from the other side surrounding much of its profile. Interesting and attractive effect.
