George V (1910-1936), 'Wreath' Crown, 1928. G5CR-015. Mintage: 9,034 units. 28.23g, 38.61mm, 0.5000 Silver, .4545 oz. ASW. Brilliant uncirculated.
The 'Wreath' Crown can be regarded as the last series of circulating crowns as a true denomination. 'Wreath' Crown is one of the most famous and sought after types. This is the scarce series and is collectable in any grade, although it will generally be encountered in about very fine (aVF) condition. Extremely fine specimens can be found without problem, but the date 1934 could be a real problem, i.e. rare.
The issue of 'Wreath' Crown in 1927 coincided with a redesign of the whole series, except Maundy, and a cased proof set was issued to commemorate this. For the first time, the mark of denomination 'CROWN' appeared.
The obverse was designed by Sir Bertram MacKennal (1863-1931) and the reverse design was by George Kruger Gray (1880-1931).
